Achievement Gains
Public charter schools produce more instances of larger achievement gains in both math and reading when compared to the traditional public schools.
Compared to students in the nearest traditional public school,
charter students were 4% more likely to be proficient in reading
and 2% more likely to be proficient in math.
Compared to students in the nearest regular public school
with a similar racial composition, charter students are
5% more likely to be proficient in reading and
3% more likely to be proficient in math.

Charter schools that have been open for significant periods of time boast even higher achievement rates; Harvard found that charter schools that have been operating for more than 5 years outpace comprable neighboring schools by as much as 15%.

that have had charter schools operating longer,
